WebGL is here!!
And yet it endured
Twenty (20) weeks now since the original submission, but we finally managed to get a web build done!! The biggest thing holding us back here was the project's use of Wwise at the outset. We were not aware that Wwise did not support WebGL, and we lost a fair amount of time trying to figure out why the build kept breaking. So, afterwards I went to the Internet and eventually ended up being able to replace what little functionality we were using in Wwise with equivalent behaviors in FMOD. There's a lot to say about the challenges to get here, which seems ironic, but let's save that for another time. Suffice it to say, I now have a greater appreciation for our sound designers and the profession at large. There's still so much to learn...
Probably the most important thing (for us, anyway) is the inclusion of actual credits on the credits screen! Go have a look, see our lovely names floating in the muted hellscape. This build also includes a few minor changes to the game itself, mostly just because I got distracted a few times:
- Added new enemy spawn point, tweaks the enemy wave numbers
- Added UI elements for the Options and Credits screens
- Tweaked the logo design and updated site assets
I'm not gonna say you should expect a regular weekly cadence of updates, but that might be what end's up happening. No promises!
